The Rodwell Trail

FERRY BRIDGE - WYKE REGIS HALT - SANDSFOOT CASTLE HALT - RODWELL - WESTHAM HALT

Photography by Alan Edwards - June 2007

The Rodwell Trail follows the track bed of the old Weymouth to Portland Railway for two and a quarter miles between Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth at Westham Halt to just beyond Wyke Regis Halt at Ferry Bridge. The line closed to Passengers on 2nd March 1952 and finally closed to Freight traffic on 5th April 1965. The trail is a very pleasant walk with access at several places along the line. There are no less than four old Railway Stations and Halts all of which have the British Railways Totem name signs proudly displayed on the platforms. There is even a short Tunnel, 58 yards long !.

This set of photos were taken in June 2007 and describes the Rodwell Trail starting from Ferry Bridge, past Westham Halt, Sandsfoot Castle Halt and Rodwell through Wyke Tunnel to Westham Halt. There are many more views along the trail between the stations and halts. There are "Previous and Next" links at the bottom of each page so that it is possible to follow the complete trail in either direction.

These web pages are only a taster, it is even better to go along and try it yourself.
