MILK BOTTLES FROM MALTA

The Milk processing plant in Malta is situated at The Old Railway Station in Hamrun. The Malta Railway closed down in 1931 and in 1936 the building of the pasteurising centre on the old railway site began. In 1938 the Milk Marketing Department opened the Milk Centre in Hamrun, In 1943 the name was changed to the Milk Marketing Undertaking (M.M.U.) and became the Malta Dairy Products (M.D.P.) in 1986. Glass Milk bottles were phased out in July 1997 and all milk is now packed and sold in cartons.

These web pages have been produced as a tribute to the much loved and never forgotten Glass Milk Bottle. Please click on the thumbnails below to see larger views.
